Chiropractic and massage complement each other
The two professions that play an increasingly role in Americans’ health care are chiropractic and massage. They have worked well together and continue to do so. While the chiropractic aims to treat musculoskeletal and general health problems through spinal adjustment, the massage practice comes to help the muscles and other soft tissues of the body, in order to reduce pain, enhance relaxation, keep the body in proper alignment, and facilitate the natural healing process.
Massage is used either in preparation for an adjustment, as to relief muscle tension, to warm up a soft tissue in the area, and to make the joints more easily adjusted, or after the adjustments for further relaxation.
Chiropractors work with muscles, bones and nerves, while massage therapists spend most of the time with the muscles, preparing the area of concern, and thus increasing the effectiveness of the chiropractic treatment. When muscles are relaxed, correct posture and alignment are easily sustained.
Together, chiropractic and massage provide a complete and effective system of health care. Benefits of massage:
- Reduction of pain
- Enhanced relaxation
- Improvement in cellular nutrition
- Stimulation of blood and lymph circulation
- Reduction of stress and anxiety
- Stimulation of heart rate and blood pressure
